Protection concept

A fully armored passenger cell

The extended LX uses the proven TRASCO protection architecture: an armoring cage with A, B and C pillars and overlaps integrated into the passenger cell, closed by laminated ballistic glass from European glass manufacturers.

Critical systems are protected as well: self-sealing fuel tank, one or two armored batteries and an armored engine control unit. Door arresters and hinges are reinforced and mounted directly to the armoring cage, and an underbody protection panel against two DM51 hand grenades is available.

Certification

Certified ballistic materials, documented threat levels

The armoring uses ballistic materials tested and certified according to VPAM-PM 2007 by government-approved German VPAM test laboratories. The extended Lexus LX is available in protection levels VR7 (formerly B6) to VR9 according to VPAM-BRV, up to STANAG 4569, Level 2.

VR7 protects against assault rifle ammunition such as 7.62×51 mm and 5.56×45 mm, VR8 adds the 7.62×39 mm armor-piercing incendiary round and a 20 mm fragment simulating projectile, VR9 the 7.62×51 mm armor-piercing round with a hard core. The complete threat table below documents every weapon, caliber and test condition.
